Though it is said that Reggaeton started in Puerto Rico, it's roots actually developed in another country in Central America. Reggaeton started to develop in the 80's when Jamaican immigrants traveled to Panama to work and began to mix the reggae genre with the Spanish language. By the 90's, Jamaican immigrants then made their way to Puerto Rico and the music began to mass produce. The song that birthed the drums of reggaeton was Dembow by Shabba Ranks. When Reggaeton was first produced (and still to this day) it used and sampled the drum pattern of Dembow.
